VMware ESXi upgrade to ESXi 6.5d (April 2017)

This short guide describes how to upgrade your VMWare ESXi 6.5 installation to version 6.5d dating 18 April 2017.

You need to enable SSH on the GUI if you want to do this remotely.

Before starting it`s recommended to put the system in maintenance mode.

esxcli network firewall ruleset set -e true -r httpClient
esxcli software profile update -p ESXi-6.5.0-20170404001-standard \
-d https://hostupdate.vmware.com/software/VUM/PRODUCTION/main/vmw-depot-index.xml
esxcli network firewall ruleset set -e false -r httpClient

Afterwards, you have to reboot.

Ubuntu Linux kernel 4.10 installation guide

This installation guide should work with the latest version of Ubuntu Linux and most Ubuntu-based distributions including Kubuntu and Mint. The included kernel files have been compiled using the generic Ubuntu configuration. A low latency version is also available in the directory of the linked files.

Installation Guide (GUI)

  1. Download the kernel headers package:

    linux-headers-4.10.0-041000_4.10.0-041000.201702191831_all.deb
  2. And the appropriate headers package for your system (choose yours)
  3. And the kernel image  (choose yours)
  4. Install the files in the same order as downloaded above. So first install the headers (generic and CPU) and finally the image (1 file).
  5. In the terminal run:

    sudo update-grub
  6. Reboot and select the kernel from the bootloader menu

Abandoning many WordPress plugins

Starting 1 October 2016 (Q4), I will fully focus on Powerpack, jQuery Updater v2 and another 3 minor plugins.

Most of these plugins will be included in Powerpackm which on release will even include more features.
All plugins will receive a final readme update, stating that I make sure it is fully compatible with WordPress versions up to 4.6 (which will release in August 2016), but no more support will be given. All users are recommended to use Powerpack  if they want to keep on receiving support.
